There’s no such thing as too many scoops.

Hans’ Homemade Ice Cream has been an Orange County staple since 1972. When it came under new ownership in 2012, I was approached by the new management to rebrand the shop in order to stay up to appeal to a wider range of young customers and compete against some of the trendier ice cream shops popping up locally.

Since Hans’ was beloved for their old-fashioned, homemade ice cream, with longstanding customers, I didn’t want to stray too far away from the heart of their original brand. The solution was to start with an up-to-date evolution of their original logo, while incorporating fresh fonts, illustration styles, and colors that were simultaneously “retro” yet contemporary.

RESULTS

Hans’ Homemade Ice Cream has remained a local treasure, but the rebrand has allowed them to franchise into trendier, more populated food spots all around Orange County. They now have locations at the Anaheim Packing House and Pacific City in Huntington Beach, along with the original shop in Santa Ana.
